Hey, you probably don't want someone ordering a triple-shot half-strength decaf skinny flat white on almond milk with 7 sweeteners. We won't hold that against you. Even so, it might be worth reviewing your in-app menu to see if any additional options should be added to your hot drinks.
Adequate options ensure customers can order ahead with confidence. On top of this they can be used to up-sell and provide added value, while also letting your customers make more sustainable choices when grabbing their daily caffeine fix!
Eco-friendly options 🌏
Single use plastic and waste in general is such a big issue today. In Australia we discard 3 BILLION takeaway cups and lids each year, and most of these are never recycled! 😱
As cafe owners, managers, baristas, and coffee drinkers, we all have a big opportunity to make a positive impact by helping to reduce the amount of waste that is created every day.
Are the hot drinks in your app menu setup with the following options?
- Keep Cup or BYO Cup (with a wee discount if possible!)
- Dine-In Cup or Mug
- No Lid / Lidless
If not, we'd encourage you to add them and we're more than happy to provide assistance. Get in touch if you'd like some help!
See an example of the Keep Cup and Dine-In options on a menu below. In this case they've been created as Kounta Product Variants, alongside the standard takeaway sizes. Great to see the Keep Cups have a discount applied 👌
"But how do I make a coffee to-go before someone arrives if they want it in a Keep Cup?" we hear you ask. Valid question! The best way to handle this is to simply fast-track their order once they arrive with the cup. If any bystanders look confused or ask questions, just let them know they can save time in future by ordering ahead with Bopple 😉
These are simple changes that can have a big impact! It's worth making some little adjustments in your workflows to support these choices.

Other customisations 😎
There may be some other important preferences not captured in your hot drink options. Not having a single option available could be the difference between someone becoming a regular app customer and potentially not ordering at all.
If you don't already have them, consider adding the options below:
- Optional Milk selections for Long Black, Teas etc
- Option to have "just a dash" of milk
- Option to have ice and/or cold water added to Long Black
- Sugar, sweetener and honey etc
See our recommended hot drinks options setup below. These are just our suggestions; the world is your oyster when it comes to the depth and detail that you can offer within the menu.
Why not do a quick mail-out to your customers and ask for some feedback on your in-app menu? This is a great way to start a conversation with your customers and it let's them know you are interested in creating a great experience for them. Get in touch if you'd like some info on accessing your customer contact emails.

Up-selling and combo deals 🤑
With a little extra setup you can even create combos and prompt additional spend with discounted up-sell options for your customers.
Here are a couple of examples. If you're interested in creating offers like these in your menu and would like some more info, please let us know!
$2 Coffee Add-On with Food Purchase
Buy a [insert food item or category here] and add a coffee for just $2!
Create an Option Set (Kounta) or Modifier Category (non-integrated) and include the various coffee products as options within. Assign the appropriate price to each ($2 or whatever you decide), and then add then link the Option Sets/Categories to the appropriate food products in your menu.
You can take a similar approach and apply it elsewhere. Another example would be having a group of always-available grab and go food items linked as an Option Set on your hot drinks, so that when customers are customising their coffee, they can quickly and easily add a muffin or a cookie!
Food Item + Coffee Combo
Very similar to the above, but in this case you set the fixed total price on the product (being the combo itself). The coffee/drink selections get linked to the product without any additional cost.
